Job Summary:

The Information Services Department at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time IT Data Center Technician. The successful candidate will:

  • Prioritize tasks in order to optimize the benefit to the organization.
  • Operate and control mainframe computers and a variety of peripherals; recognize equipment malfunctions, gross errors, and corrective action.
  • Operate and troubleshoot sever systems.
  • Perform first-level troubleshooting.
  • Assist system administrators in troubleshooting and repair.
  • Maintain Datacenter environment and room.
  • Monitor and operate computer consoles.
  • Take corrective actions required by messages.
  • Perform production runs and tasks following installation procedures fulfilling scheduling priorities.
  • Perform all physical tasks requiring standing, stopping, walking for long periods, lifting heavy cartons of paper, replenishing stock, moving equipment, and as required to meet installation needs, distribute reports, prepare materials needed for production runs.
  • Deal promptly, effectively, and courteously with users; perform help desk functions; problem solves user problems and redirect issues to the responsible support areas.
  • Troubleshoot and repair computer and printer equipment.
  • Answer incoming calls from center-wide users and route inquire accordingly.
  • Generate and deliver daily reports to customers.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems.
  • Experience with Z/VM, z/OS, MVS, and TSO is preferred.
  • Experience with Linux and MacOS is a plus.
  • Experience with Vwmare vSphere and Citrix Virtual Apps (XenApp) is a plus.
  • Experience with Network monitoring tools (WhatsUP Gold, SolarWinds, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft SCCM is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.
  • Must have a professional manner in written form, telephone, and email.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Support for computer hardware and software.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Sunday-Thursday; 3 pm-11 pm

SL-1

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
