Job Summary:

The Department of Patient Relations at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Patient Advocate. The successful candidate will: 

  • Report to the Executive Director pro-actively on relevant serious issues requiring immediate action. 
  • Greet patients and families at both the ED entrance and hospital main lobby. Assist with helping patients find clinic appointments and patient visitations. 
  • Serve as a liaison between patients family members and staff to resolve issues.
  • Answer incoming calls regarding patient complaints in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Investigate and respond to patient/family members complaints promptly. Responsible for adhering to the complaint management process for prompt resolution. Documents patient complaints in the Complaint Tracking System. 
  • Complete daily rounds on assigned units visiting the new admissions. Expedite services Limited English Proficiency population, ensuring interpretive services are provided. Serves and protects the DMC Community adhering to policies/procedures and professional standards.
  • Educate patients about their rights as needed. Adhere to Downstate Principles of Behavior.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suites, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Working with patient satisfaction data.
  • Professional Attire a MUST.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of related experience working with patient satisfaction data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, i.e. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Professional attire.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working toward a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish and/or Haitian Creole).

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 11:00am to 7:00pm

SL-1

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
