Job Summary:

The Department of Patient Relations at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Patient Advocate. The successful candidate will:
- Report to the Executive Director pro-actively on relevant serious issues requiring immediate action.
- Greet patients and families at both the ED entrance and hospital main lobby. Assist with helping patients find clinic appointments and patient visitations.
- Serve as a liaison between patients family members and staff to resolve issues.
- Answer incoming calls regarding patient complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
- Investigate and respond to patient/family members complaints promptly. Responsible for adhering to the complaint management process for prompt resolution. Documents patient complaints in the Complaint Tracking System.
- Complete daily rounds on assigned units visiting the new admissions. Expedite services Limited English Proficiency population, ensuring interpretive services are provided. Serves and protects the DMC Community adhering to policies/procedures and professional standards.
- Educate patients about their rights as needed. Adhere to Downstate Principles of Behavior.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suites, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Working with patient satisfaction data.
- Professional Attire a MUST.
