Job Summary:

The Department of Library Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Instructional Support Assistant. The successful candidate will: 

  • Report to the Audio-Visual Manager and provide direct support to the faculty, students and staff users of the teaching and technology resources in the University's shared spaces.
  • Be responsible for proactively managing the department's resources and supporting their successful use.
  • Respond to any audio-visual and technical needs in supported spaces.
  • Provide telephone and e-mail support for incoming client request for room space and AV equipment, including desk coverage in the Learning Resource Center as needed. 
  • Conduct regular inspections of supported areas to assure installed AV systems are in proper working order, cleaned and supplied. 
  • Provide training on the operation of AV and instructional system 
  • Assist in the collection of data on usage, attendance, inspections and other metrics. 
  • Support use of standard installed software on computers in shared classrooms and labs. 
  • Maintain the inventory of movable, spare, and installed AV equipment. 
  • Provide temporary equipment solution or room accommodations in case of technical emergency and affect repairs as quickly as possible. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Educational Technology or related area.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Technical knowledge a wide variety or audio and video equipment, including control systems such as Crestron Extron.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, Lecture Capture, synch-and asynchronous collaboration tools, web conferencing, and other instructional technologies. 
  • Excellent decision-making, organizational, written and verbal skills. 
  • Commitment to high quality and responsive service. 
  • Strong Windows, Mac OSX and mobile OS skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, able to take initiative to resolve problems and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to make sounds decisions, often in stressful situations. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, assertiveness and confidence. 
  • Strong presentation skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Avixa CTS Certification and/or other technical certification a plus. 
  • Medical simulation experience a plus. 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 7:30am to 3:30pm

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-1

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
