Job Summary:

The Department of Ambulatory Care Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant 2 / Registrar. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide general administrative support for clinical and financial operations, to ensure the expeditious processing of the patient scheduling functions. 
  • Arrange timely clinical appointments, reschedule/cancel patient appointments when necessary. 
  • Verify patients health insurance in healthcare applications.
  • Prepare charts, retrieve related reports.
  • Secure referrals and/or authorizations for patient visits.
  • Work within the call center or outpatient department clinical suites as necessary.
  • Interview and obtain demographic and financial information for hospital, registration and billing office.
  • Answer phone calls courteously and appropriately direct all incoming calls to the call center.
  • Scan documents as needed.
  • Assist the department with special projects as assigned.
  • Contact patients of missed appointments, send missed appointment notifications when necessary. 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Related work experience in a hospital outpatient or private medical practice.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Eagle System/Allscript Scheduling platforms.

Monday to Friday; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
