Job Summary:

The Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Associate Professor (HS) and Chair. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of the department's operations, including faculty development, curriculum oversight, student success, and departmental growth. 
  • Oversee the Master of Public Health (MPH) concentrations in Health Policy and Management, Healthcare Administration, The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), and the Doctor of Public Health (Dr.PH) degree programs.
  • Oversee the teaching, research and service activities of faculty and staff within the HPM department at the Brooklyn campus as well as the Manhattan extension site.
  • Mentor faculty in research, teaching, and service activities, fostering their success in obtaining extramural research funding.
  • Develop course schedules for MPH and DrPH programs, ensuring alignment with curriculum requirements and accreditation standards, and oversee the MHA Capstone and MPH ILE.
  • Lead efforts to recruit and retain students in the HPM programs,; champion continuous quality improvement of the department's curriculum, ensuring ongoing compliance with accreditation criteria. 
  • Oversee the departmental operations and budget.
  • Develop and maintain a positive departmental culture that upholds the School of Public Health's mission, vision and values. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree: MD or PhD.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role within a public health academic department. 
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research and service.
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills with a focus on collaboration and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
